W IFPiL prowadzone są badania z dwóch dyscyplin: językoznawstwo i literaturoznawstwo. Badania językoznawcze (w tym logopedyczne) obejmują rozwój mowy i jej zaburzenia, metodologiczne aspekty programowania języka w postępowaniu logopedycznym, kompetencję językową i komunikacyjną osób niedosłyszących i osób z trudnościami w czytaniu i pisaniu, a także polszczyznę źródeł archiwalnych (akty mowy, gatunki, dyskurs) i językowy obraz świata, ponadto: analizę slawistyczną, komparatystykę lingwistyczną (słowotwórstwo konfrontatywne języków słowiańskich, głównie polskiego, rosyjskiego i czeskiego). Badania literaturoznawcze pracowników Instytutu określają następujące obszary, w tym interdyscyplinarne i komparatystyczne: z historii literatury, idei i form (od średniowiecza do współczesności), z uwzględnieniem cywilizacyjnych uwarunkowań kulturowych epoki globalizacji, m. in.: interpretacje literatury polskiej i obcej, literatura pogranicza kulturowego, polska literatura mistyczna, awangardowe trendy w literaturze polskiej XX i XXI wieku, badania nad twórczością kobiet i kobiecością (studia kobiece), związki literatury z prawem, z historią sztuki i naukami społecznymi oraz dydaktykę polonistyczną w aspekcie historycznym i stosowanym.
The Institute of Polish Philology and Logopaedics conducts research in two disciplines: linguistics and literature studies. Linguistic studies (including speech development and speech disorders), methodological aspects of language programming in speech management, linguistic and communication competence of people with hearing loss and literacy difficulties, the linguistic image/picture of the world, as well as the Polish language of archival sources (acts of speech, genres, discourses), in addition: Slavic analysis, linguistic comparative studies (verbal confrontational formation of Slavic languages, mainly Polish, Russian and Czech). Literature studies of the Institute's employees define the following areas, including interdisciplinary and comparative ones: from the history of literature, concepts and forms (from the Middle Ages to the present time), taking into account the cultural civilization determinants of the age of globalization, among others: interpretations of Polish and foreign literature, literature of the cultural borderland, Polish mystical literature, avant-garde trends in Polish literature of the twentieth and twenty-first century, Women’s Studies, links of literature with law, art history and social sciences, as well as didactics in the Polish and applied aspects.
